Scotland v Japan
Competition: International Friendly
Fixture Date: 28/03/26
Scotland host fellow World Cup finalists Japan in an international friendly at Hampden Stadium in late March.
Steve Clarke’s side last played at the national stadium in November, in a thrilling 4-2 qualification victory over Denmark, and are sure of a rousing welcome in Glasgow as they fine-tune their preparations ahead of this summer’s tournament in the Americas.
Scotland last faced Japan, currently 18 places above them in the FIFA World rankings, in 2009. On that occasion the Samurai Blue were 2-0 winners in a friendly in Yokohama, with the only two encounters prior to that ending in goalless draws.
The four-time Asian Cup winners, who have reached the Round of 16 in three of the last four World Cups, have some familiar faces in Haijime Moriyasu’s side. They include Liverpool’s Wataru Endo, Daichci Kamada of Crystal Palace and Leeds United’s Ao Tanaka, in addition to Celtic forward Daizen Maeda.
The Tartan Army never miss an opportunity to back their boys at the national stadium and will be out in force once again as the hosts look to build momentum ahead of the summer.
Supporters can reserve a copy of the SFA’s official match-day publication from this international fixture.
