Birmingham City are honouring the club’s greatest-ever player Trevor Francis with a special commemorative edition of ‘Blues News’ this weekend.
The former England forward passed away aged 69 this August and the club where his footballing dynasty began, debuting at the age of 16 in 1970, are providing a fitting tribute to his legacy as Blues host Leeds United at St. Andrew’s.
As well as a minute’s applause for their former player and manager, a book of remembrance will be at the stadium for supporters to share their thoughts of the footballing great, while shirts, wreaths and scarves have been placed outside the ground as a mark of respect.
Francis scored 133 goals in 330 appearances for Blues before becoming Britain’s first £1million footballer when he signed for Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest in 1979, going on to lift two European Cups with the East Midlands side.
Current Blues boss John Eustace said: “Francis couldn’t wait to be part of this football club going forward again. It is tragic news but it will bring us even closer again.”
Blues have produced a bumper 84-page special edition to pay tribute to their former icon, with profits going to the BCFC Community Trust, and supporters can reserve a copy of this keepsake for £4, plus post and packaging, from the club’s official publishing partners Ignition Sports Media from HERE
